  • Wing Notes: Capt E.D. Asbury Pilot 49 SDN RFC, KIA 9/24/1918 Age 19; The metal RFC wings (in gilt) were introduced in 1912 and quickly replaced by cloth wings. Wings with prongs/blades on the reverse are usually affixed to photo frames. Officers' Service Dress (OSD) introduced in 1908 had all badges in bronze metal with blade fixings on the reverse, but there is no evidence that the RFC wings came in this form.
